Simple. Better. Lasting.

SENSE–MADE is about simple objects for everday use. They make sense and they are well made. Visual & haptic qualities are equally crucial. They are also considered as functions – for our senses, making objects desireable and a joy to use.

The process of making is of central importance – how, where & by whom the objects are made: As carefully & sustainably as possible by skilled, local experts & craftsmen.

Striving for improved usage through observation and development: This includes open–purpose, systemic thinking and easy maintenance. Only well working, well maintainable, lovable things are really made to last. Keeping – not replacing – things is the best form of sustainability.

Avoiding “throw-away-ism” (obsolescence) is at the heart of SENSE–MADE.

Functional. Lovable. Long lasting.

If an object is desirable & good quality, if it works well & it’s easy to maintain — it will be used for as long as possible.

That’s sustainability.

The brand was founded in Zurich in 2021 by German & Swiss designers Maxi Modes & Martin Drechsel. Growing up in socialist East Germany (GDR) with limited resources may have influenced their view on today’s global consume culture: Appreciating (previously unattainable) objects rather than fast paced buying and disposing.

With the experience of living and working in Zurich, London, Berlin, Amsterdam, Florence, Milan & Dresden and their combined over 30 years as industrial design professionals, it is their passion to create products which stand the test of time.
